Goa (India) site is aligned with our corporate responsibility and sustainability initiatives for a long term business strategy to achieve our sustainability goals. As a site, we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment. Our waste reduction and sustainability programs reflect our close collaboration with suppliers and contractors by engaging with all of them, and our commitment to operational excellence. Our commitment is to reduce waste at the point of generation and focusing on reuse and recycling to the maximum possible extent. We have an active cross functional “Green Team” to drive and sustain our TRUE certification for zero waste program, and all the employees and site contractors received zero waste training and updates on goals and best practices. “Trash to treasure” is an annual event that engages employees by helping the team members and contractors to identify opportunities of recycling ,reuse, and generating waste reduction ideas.
Some of the site’s key zero waste highlights include a program to collect and divert good leftover food from our canteen to a local charity, thereby utilizing it for people in need. Reuse of pallets, carton crates, tube boxes, and recycling of wastewater sludge as a raw material in the cement industry. This program is continuously driven with a high level of engagement from country and global leadership, and the entire plant team. Such practices help us to divert waste from landfill and incineration to reuse and recycle, reduce costs, and reinforce a culture of zero waste and sustainability.
“By 2025, we aim to achieve 100% TRUE certification for our global operations, including manufacturing sites, technology centers, strategic offices and owned warehouses,” says Ann Tracy, Chief Sustainability Officer. “With enthusiastic teams, collaborative partners and this comprehensive approach to waste reduction, we’re confident we can make it happen.”
